Thoughts And Notions
Somehow, after having been able to step away from doing a hands on approach in managing a band, I was able to take a closer look at the whole band picture and gave me an opportunity to think outside the box. Last December 15, I was able to come up with a huge event in cooperation with the radio and TV network RPN here in Cagayan de Oro City. It was for a huge twin event that was billed as The Grand Finals of the Bagong Kampeon 2007 and the Grand Draw of the Shop and Win At Kevin and Keimart Part 3. Long before this, I already was able to immerse myself in Events Production jobs when Oido Events was still around. We used to bring Rivermaya, Bamboo, Paolo Santos, Hale, MYMP and others here in Cagayan de Oro City for Concerts and events. So basically, I could say that I already have an extensive experience when it comes to Events Production. The event last December 15 was Successful as I might say. Of course, we wouldn't be able to pull this off without the help of RPN's established hosts. It was the first time that (well excluding the Nescafe Soundskool Regional finals held in Davao) three bands which I would want to call as brother/sister bands shared the stage together. My band, Thoughts And Notions, shared the stage with Nobelista Pasta, and EuKryp2. I would want to call them as brother/sister bands because in one way or another, the three of them has a certain connection with each other. Of course, I began everything with Thoughts And Notions. Our connection with Nobelista Pasta is that our guitarist Erikson Gloria, and our Drummer Adonis Berongoy, are also a part of Nobelista Pasta. Eukryp2 on the other hand started out just recently and I wouldn't be surprised if I would find out that the reason why they decided to start a band would have some connection with Thrina, our vocalist. Thrina has been good friends with the band members of Eukryp2 and in fact their Lead Singer, Larah Grace Fermill, once helped me out in getting photos of the band during a gig in SM CDO. So one way or another we already have a connection.
Eukryp2
It actually all started when the bands went to Davao to compete when they were named as among the Regional Finalists of the Nescafe Soundskool Band competition. Nobelista Pasta emerged as the winner and the right to represent Cagayan de Oro in the Grand Finals held in Metro Manila. From there, the bands' closeness and Camaraderie developed. From there, I began thinking about holding an event that would feature the three bands. But since I was busy with other stuffs, it had to take a backseat. Now when I started planning on the show for our company's Grand Draw, all I had in mind was to only have my band, Thoughts And Notions guest for the event. But since this would be a 5 hour show, It would be strenuous and tiring for the band to take that much beating. So I decided to bring along other bands to share the stage with. So I asked Thrina which band she would want to share the stage with. Naturally, Nobelista Pasta and Eukryp2 came into her mind. I didn't have to panic or start worrying about the event because these 2 bands are good. So when the event proper finally started, Eukryp2 kicked things off. The show was also the Grand Finals of RPN 's Bagong Kampeon 2007, so there were a lot of singing and music on that night. The band did a very good job of keeping the intermissions lively. Thoughts And Notions was the one who formally closed the RPN event by debuting their new jingle created for Kevin Sardines and marked the day as their official day of formally agreeing to be Kevin Sardines' newest endorsers. Thoughts And Notions formally opened the band presentations followed by Eukryp2 and Nobelista Pasta. Nobelista Pasta was the main highlight of the 2nd part of the show as they shared their wining form to the Divisoria Night Cafe Audiences.

After watching the entire event, I somehow felt inspired to start our own production group. Here in CDO, there are only three production groups who are diligently pushing for Original CDO Music to be heard. Namely, Corridor Music Group (consisting of underground punk/emo/ska bands), Sonata Productions (a group pushing for original CDO art and music artists) and TUA Records (a group that brings popular artists to share the stage with local bands). I still am Thoughts And Notions' band manager, but right now, I feel that I need to step back and let the band grow by themselves. Let the band learn the ropes of the music scene by themselves. And there's no other way to do it but to create a production group where each member of the band would help one another in finding gigs, events, and other band related stuffs. And this production group will feature the three brother/sister bands plus other guest bands that would be willing to join them from time to time. I guess it's time for me to call a meeting and plot out the next steps. Abangan!

Thoughts And Notions had a good come back show except for the annoying technical problems that they have to wrestle with. During their previous gig in the same event, it was the strong rains that prevented the crowd from gathering to watch the band's amazing set. This time, there was a slight drizzle but a sizeable amount of crowd managed to gather to watch the band's set. Unfortunately, a busted guitar amp ruined some of the band's song. The band shrugged off their initial disappointment of the faulty sound system to deliver what they could do best to give the watching spectator a great show. Thoughts And Notions played cover songs from ranging from international acts like Michelle Branch, New Order, Buses And Trains, Goo Goo Dolls, to OPM artists such as Imago, Session Road, and they even played an anime series Beck's soundtrack called Moon over water. As well as 5 original songs from their album. Below is a video of the carrier single of their album, My Love Song, as played live at the Samsung event.
Not even the rain could stop them. Thoughts And Notions ripped through their set as they played an hour long during Samsung's indie bands event. Thoughts And Notions were joined in by Komofudge and Tabularaza where each band was given Three full hours to play. This was Thoughts And Notions longest set since their album launching event a year ago. The band played a total of 13 songs all in all. They opened their set with Bachelor Girl's Buses and Trains, followed by Imago's version of an APO original, Ewan, and their own hit Sundo. Michelle Branch's Everywhere was also covered. They also did a surprising cover of the song Full Moon's Way from the anime series called Beck. The rocking cover of Bizarre Love Triangle also made an appearance. Baguio based OPM Pop/Rock Band Session Road's song titled Suntok Sa Buwan was also covered by the band. Iris, a hit song from the band Goo Goo Dolls also made an appearance. The band also played 5 songs from their album, namely My Love Song, Earthbound Angel, My Journey Ends, Brand New Day, and the live performance of Strength I Need, which was last played during their album launching. The hour long show managed to draw on lookers from the Night Cafe as they curiously watched the band play their "Power Pop" brand of songs. The event was a complete success despite the rains. Not even the rain could stop Thoughts And Notions from giving the people a good show!
The SM CDO Car park area virtually turned into a skateboarding demonstration event as Corridor Music Group and SM City CDO brought together Cagayan de Oro's top skateboarding afficionados and Corridor Music Group's roster of underground bands. The event was dubbed as "Echoes of Our Hearts." Thoughts And Notions was among the event's special guests where they were joined in by Serabella, Red Whiskey, Supercharger, and Furtherance. It was a rocking skateboarding event that started around 4pm in the afternoon. CDO's top skateboarders strutted their stuff to the delight of SM's shopping patrons. Bands would alternately play in between. Corridor Music Group has been highly distinguished and highly regarded as CDO's premier underground indie production group that boasts of a roster that includes the top emo, punk, and ska bands in the city. Thoughts And Notions provided the different sound among those genre as they brought in to play their brand of "power pop" songs. They opened their set with their own rocking rendition of Bizarre Love Triangle. They then played 2 songs from their album, Brand New Day, and My Love Song. Their set provided as a breather for those people who were slam dancing to the previous bands' music and were preparing for Superflirt's set, who was to follow Thoughts And Notion's set. Overall it was quite a successful event, and the bands managed to let all those echoes in the hearts of those who were watching reverberate all over their hearts.

U.S. Based Internet Radio Station, The Spirit Radio, Interviews Thoughts And Notions
The Spirit Radio: Where are you from originally and what sort of things were you into growing up?
Thoughts And Notions: We are all originally from the Philippines, down south in Mindanao. Growing up, we belonged to different Christian Churches serving in different Ministries. Youth groups in particular, from music to spiritual formation.
TSR: How did you get started in the music business?
Thoughts And Notions: We started in the Music Business by writing, creating, and producing 10 tracks of all Original Christian Contemporary Music with the intention of sharing our profits as a fund raising project for our Church''s Youth Group. We then got good reviews from our friends and peers, thus inspiring us to send a copy to one Record label in the Philippines for distribution nationwide. Not soon after, they signed us to a distribution contract.
TSR: How long have you been doing what you are doing now?
Thoughts And Notions: Approximately around 2 years already.
TSR: Who were some of your musical influences?
Thoughts And Notions: We are highly influenced by Christian bands such as Jars Of Clay, Sixpence None the Richer, Hillsong, and Switchfoot.
TSR: For those who may not have heard you before, how would you describe your music?
Thoughts And Notions: It''s inspiring, uplifting, and most of all, it sounds new and at par with other Christian artists out there in the Market. It''s Christian Contemporary Pop/Rock Music with still a lot of innocence in it.
TSR: What would you say that most of your songs are about?
Thoughts And Notions: Basically, it''s about our life experiences in living the Christian faith. These are true to life experiences of having encountered God''s love, as told by our songs, and hoping that a lot of people could relate to and be touched by our songs.
TSR: What are your feelings toward Christians listening to secular music?
Thoughts And Notions: In our opinion, there''s nothing bad about it. Not all secular music has bad messages. But one of the good things coming from listening to secular music is that it gives you an awareness of what is happening in the secular music scene now. And as a Christian artist, what you yourself would want to do to create your own music and capture the listening ears of not only Christians, but other people of different faith as well.
TSR: How has God been working in your life lately? What things has He been teaching you?
Thoughts And Notions: Lately, he''s been working in our life through our music. Everyday it''s a constant struggle and hardship of not only improving our craft, but being able to utilize our status as well as a Christian artist and how we could effectively share God''s love through our music.
TSR: What is the most important thing that you would like people to take away from your music or live shows?
Thoughts And Notions: The most important thing that we would want people to take away from our music is our songs. Particularly the message that we want to share through our songs. We always put in our hearts and in our minds that none of us is bigger than our songs. It''s not about individual talent, creativity, personality, that would bring our band to another level, but it''s because of us as a collective unit which created songs that would take a life of it''s own in touching peoples lives. Our songs'' message, which is God''s Love, is the most important gift that we could ever give to our listeners.
TSR: What is your favorite bible verse?
Thoughts And Notions: Phil. 4 :14 "I CAN DO ALL THINGS THRU CHRIST WHO GIVES ME STRENGTH"
TSR: What things do you like to do in your spare time?
Thoughts And Notions: We have our own different lives to live with school and studies. Some are already working, and some of us also help out in our Church since we belong to different Churches.
TSR: Who is your favorite Christian artist?
Thoughts And Notions: Jars Of Clay, Sixpence None the Richer, Switchfoot, Hillsong, Matt Redman, Steven Curtis Chapman.

Thoughts And Notions' debut at Volume was a resounding success. Volume 120 db, which is located at SM City CDO parking lot building, has lately been considered as the music haven for Cagayan de Oro's local music scene. It is in these walls where the undiscovered wealth of talents from CDO musicians are born. Every Wednesday of the week, top local CDO bands as well as the city's rising stars are gathered to play and celebrate a night of covers and original CDO music. Here in Cagayan de Oro, local bars are more into showband and acoustic music than original CDO music. Volume took the cudgels for the local Original bands and opened their doors to the local music scene. Every Wednesday, the venue is jam packed and cramped as the clamor for the budding local music scene continues to grow. Before any band could say that they have already made a splash in the City's music scene, they should have been able to play here. The events are being handled by a combination of the past and the future of the most promising production outfits here in CDO. Namely, Old School Chuck Bollozos' (Bassist of Gasulina) Punchbowl Productions, and New breed Shaef Trazo's (Vocalist of Gasulina) Sonata Productions. .
On this particular night, Thoughts And Notions finally made their debut performance at Volume alongside other CDO bands like Swerve, and China Rose to name a few. For the past few months, Thoughts And Notions has been honing their chops in preparation for future events that would bring them on the centerstage of CDO's music scene's most important critics. Tonight, they came to impress. The band played their hearts out as they showcased four original songs from their album and one cover song. They opened their set with My Love Song and followed by Brand New Day. Bizarre Love Triangle was played next much to the stunned audience. A different arrangement was made for this old 80's song, Thoughts And Notions' way. My Journey Ends followed and they closed their set with Earthbound Angel. The band managed to elicit a warm applause from the crowds and a two thumbs up from the critics. After more than one year of gigging, the band has finally made some very important strides in gaining the respect of their peers.
Thoughts And Notions was invited to be a special guest at the Hillsong Music Workshop last June 16, 2007 at the Corpus Christi Gym. In what by far has to be the biggest gathering (3,000 attendees) of Christians from all over Visayas and Mindanao, the Music Workshop was a very huge success as different Music Ministries from different Churches learned a thing or two from Hillsong themselves. Hillsong led the opening program by starting the morning worship and shared personal testimonies of God's love as experienced by them. This was followed by an informative talk by House of Praise owner, Mr. Johnny Sy, who gave the audience an inside look on Piracy and how it has harmed the Music Industry. Jasper Lloyd Tan, Thoughts And Notions' founder and lyricist, then came next as he shared their band's story much to the curious attendees' delight. He managed to capture the attention of the audience through cracking amusing stories and gestures as he shared their band's inspiring story. Giving hope to other Christian artists that everything is possible if your heart really belonged to God. Thoughts And Notions then played two songs from their debut album "In Awe of His Amazing Love", namely Savior, and Earthbound Angel. It was the band's biggest performance so far as they played and shared their music to 3,000 attendees from all over Visayas and Mindanao. The Hillsong Concert for two nights was able to draw 5,000 audiences on each night of the concert. The event which was simply called "Blessed" proved to be a perfect blessing for everyone.
